During the celebrations of World Soil Day, the University President, Professor Dr. Mazen Al-Hassani, recommended the use of artificial intelligence in soil and agriculture protection. This suggestion was made during his opening speech at the second annual celebration organized by the College of Agriculture, with the participation of deans, heads of scientific departments, faculty members, and students.
Al-Hassani emphasized the importance of establishing a research center dedicated to developing various agricultural technologies that would enhance crop yield and production for various crops.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Assistant Professor Dr. Hakim Sultan, highlighted the event’s significance as a form of awareness to preserve healthy soil, free from chemical pollutants. He stressed the call for sustainable management of soil and water resources.
The celebration included various segments, such as honoring students from the Hope Institute for Autism, showcasing students’ achievements, and holding an exhibition featuring devices manufactured by students and displaying their products.

Assistant Professor Hassanein Taher Karim from the Department of Plant Protection at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Wasit, participated in the examination committee for the doctoral thesis of Hamza Abbas Yasser Sultan from the University of Wasit / College of Science. The thesis focused on the compatibility between entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema sp) and the fungus (Beauveria bassiana) in controlling the peach fruit fly (Bactrocera zonata). The discussion enriched the scientific knowledge with valuable and insightful information. The thesis recommended the use of biopesticides instead of chemical ones, as they demonstrated excellent and sustainable results in environmental insect control.
