As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week at the University of Wasit, a training course titled “Greenhouse Management and Future Outlook” was held. The three-day course, from November 14 to 16, 2023, took place in the Seminar and Greenhouse Hall at the College of Agriculture. The course covered three main topics:
- Disease Management: Diagnosis and Swift Treatment
- Presented by Prof. Dr. Azhar Hameed Faraj.
- Prediction Strategy and Disease Prevention in Greenhouses within the Integrated Disease Management Concepts
- Presented by Assistant Prof. Dr. Jawadayn Taleb Abd.
- Technical Features of Greenhouses Related to Plant Disease Management
- Presented by Assoc. Prof. Noor Kazem Kareem.
The course included on-site field visits to plastic greenhouses at the College of Agriculture and the guidance center in Wasit province. These visits aimed to observe different crops grown in various seasons and the diseases affecting them in different greenhouses. The course also emphasized preventive, treatment, and control measures using scientific and safe methods, considering the health of workers and consumers. Additionally, it covered predicting occurrences and understanding the impact of environmental factors such as frost, temperature fluctuations, humidity changes, and other biotic and abiotic factors inside greenhouses on cultivated crops.

Assistant Professor Hassanein Taher Karim from the Department of Plant Protection at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Wasit, participated in the examination committee for the doctoral thesis of Hamza Abbas Yasser Sultan from the University of Wasit / College of Science. The thesis focused on the compatibility between entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema sp) and the fungus (Beauveria bassiana) in controlling the peach fruit fly (Bactrocera zonata). The discussion enriched the scientific knowledge with valuable and insightful information. The thesis recommended the use of biopesticides instead of chemical ones, as they demonstrated excellent and sustainable results in environmental insect control.
